On Saturday, August 17, Butte College presented over 200 scholarships totaling nearly $200,000 at its annual Scholarship Awards brunch. The event, hosted by the Butte College Foundation, honored students from diverse backgrounds. Scholarships are awarded on several criteria including financial need, academic achievement, civic engagement and chosen areas of study.
In addition to the awards distributed during the brunch, the foundation presents scholarships to students in the law enforcement, fire, and state parks academies during their commencement ceremonies. It also collaborates with the local community to distribute another $200,000 in external scholarships. In total, the foundation provides scholarships to more than 500 students annually, helping them further their education and careers.
“I am humbled by the opportunity to impact this many students and thankful to our donors who make these scholarships possible,” said Linda Zorn, interim executive director of the Butte College Foundation.
The Butte College Foundation scholarship application opens each February and is available to all incoming, current and returning Butte College students, including high school seniors. The foundation supports the advancement of Butte College students, programs and staff through grants, endowments, donations and scholarships.
